Electromobility in the Snow: Charging Where No Outlet Is Available

Electromobility in the Snow: Charging Where No Outlet Is Available
On March 13 and 14, 2026, Snowexpo took place at Melchsee Frutt, the highest trade fair in Europe for alpine infrastructure and technology.
Our partner Friedli Fahrzeuge AG presented electric ATVs, quads and snowmobiles in real-life operation on the test track. At the centre of attention was one key question: How can such vehicles be reliably charged in remote mountain regions?
Mobile charging station directly on the slope
To ensure energy supply, a mobile charging station was implemented on a skid-mounted trailer. Equipped with four ecoPowerTrolleys enable charging of the vehicles directly between operating intervals. Flexible, mobile and completely off-grid.
This clearly demonstrated how mobile battery systems open up new possibilities for electromobility in alpine environments — especially where no grid connection is available.

Especially in alpine environments, mobile energy is the key to electromobility

I show you the solution
From doubt to surprise
When many visitors first saw the electric snowmobiles, scepticism was high. A common question was what happens if a vehicle stops in the middle of the snow. This concern was quickly resolved on-site. Thanks to the ecoPowerTrolley, a snowmobile can be charged almost anywhere.
During one presentation, a snowmobile was quietly connected to an ecoPowerTrolley. The charging process was silent and emission-free—so discreet that nearly no one noticed the vehicle had already been recharged during the discussion.
This seamless demonstration shifted initial doubt to surprise. When it was later announced that the snowmobile was ready to operate again, many visitors expressed genuine surprise.
Exchange with mountain railways and emergency services
In addition to the demonstrations on the test track, discussions with mountain railway operators, municipalities, and emergency services were a key focus. Topics included the use of electric vehicles for winter maintenance, rescue operations and alpine transport.
Manufacturers of cable car systems also showed strong interest in mobile energy solutions. Especially for temporary installations or additional lifts in remote areas, mobile energy supply opens up entirely new possibilities.
Snowexpo once again showed that mobile energy systems are essential for electrifying vehicles in remote regions.
