Mobile energy in infrastructure operations

Invisible Work for Safe Traffic Beneath the Gubrist Tunnel

Invisible Work for Safe Traffic Beneath the Gubrist Tunnel
Every day, thousands of vehicles speed through the Gubrist Tunnel, unaware of the crucial operations happening far beneath the roadway—vital work few ever see, but absolutely essential for the tunnel’s safe operation.

Under the tunnel is a network of pipes that carry away water. This stops water from pooling inside. The pipes must be cleaned often, using strong pumps that blow and spray water at high speed.

Challenge in the sice shaft
Maintenance work is carried out in the service shaft beneath the tunnel infrastructure. In this environment, high-capacity power sources are often unavailable. At the same time, the equipment used requires high starting currents of up to 40 kW and a continuous load of around 7 kW.

A standard diesel generator does not meet the needs of this environment:

  • Exhaust emissions in a confined shaft
  • Limited mobility
  • Not permitted in sensitive tunnel environments

Mobile energy for demanding infrastructure work
The Civil Engineering Office of the Canton of Zurich uses the ecoPowerTrolley as a modern, clean solution for this purpose.

This mobile battery system lets the pumps and machines work safely in the shaft—without any exhaust fumes.

Advantages in operation:

  • Powerful mobile energy supply
  • Reliable operation of high-pressure pumps and compressors
  • No exhaust emissions in confined work areas

Maintenance behind the scenes – safety in everyday traffic
Thanks to this mobile energy solution, maintenance work is carried out efficiently while commuters experience uninterrupted, safe travel through the tunnel above.

This partnership between modern energy systems and infrastructure maintenance helps ensure traffic keeps moving safely for thousands of commuters each day.
